NAGRA Kudelski SN-S Mono Half Track Recorder

Nagra SN-S mono half track variable speed recorder in excellent condition and perfect working order. This recorder updates the SN recorder that had no speed switch. The SN-S has High and Low speed and the speed is variable between the two.

By having a half track recorder when the tape runs out you turn the tape over and record on the other track, by running the tape backwoods, without affecting your original recording.

This NAGRA SN-S is half-track and half speed recording, 1 7/8 and 15/16 in./sec. (4.75 and 2.38 cm/s) ips, The serial number is 2008768

This Recorder has been serviced by Mike Harris Sound Services and has a 3 Month guarantee from the date of purchase

Before you use the recorder check the transport lock is off (the half round knob by the meter) it is now in the off position. If it is rotated down, the lock is on and you cannot operate the recorder.

(Pictured above left) is the control lever, push into (Load) and up to lock in, to play the tape. However if you have a microphone or Line input lead plugged in the connector ( just above the control lever) it is in the recording position and will record.

Pull out and up to lock the control lever to REWIND the tape. Then at the top canter of the recorder is a rewind mechanism, press the flat bar that is across the top and the rewind arm will pop up. Lift up the chrome pin, then holding the pin, wind the tape in a clockwise direction.

There is a high or low speed control just to the right of the rewind handle. The TTA control is Tape Tension Adjustment (this is set).

This recorder is fitted with a preset automatic record compression level. There is no manual control.

On the right hand side of the SN-S is a push button battery test, the battery level should be in the green on the meter.

The tape spools are held by a cross bar, rotate the bar until it lines up with the slot in the tape spool and lift off the tape spool.

Recording: When the Microphone or Line input Micro plug is fitted in the green 6 pin socket on the left hand side of the SN, it switches the recorder into the record mode, pushing in the control lever to ON. The recorder will run the tape, check your level on the meter, it has a preset automatic record compression level, there is no control. The PHONES 3.5 mono jack socket on the left side of the SN. This is an off tape output to monitor the recording, there is a delay from the direct input. There is no Direct output. This socket is also the playback output when there is no connector plugged into the Micro 6 pin input socket

(Pictured above left) you can see a small scratch on the bottom of the case. The rest of the case is in perfect condition and even has all the windows.

Inside the bottom case is a block diagram with connection information for accessories, and inside the lid are operating instructions.

The 5 pin socket it used for a pilot sync unit or remote stop start. Not included with this recorder.

This recorder is in very good working condition and is complete with no windows missing from the lid. However there is a small scratch on the bottom of the case.

The SN-S tape heads are in very good condition and it's in perfect working order

(Pictured above left) you can see the 2 AA batteries that the recorder runs on.

The machine has the following features:

  • Half track mono recorder
  • Original good working lapel microphone. That was intended to be used for covert recording
  • Playback: Unplugging the Microphone / Line input plug, puts the SN in the playback mode, rewind the tape and check the playback

    These recorders come with one microphone input lead to 3 pin XLR socket for dynamic microphones. There is no line input lead, an original Nagra microphone. There is a 3.5 mono jack to XLR output lead, All leads have DC blocking built in.

    I have included 1 metal spools of tape and 1 empty metal spools, 2 new spools of tape in original packing, and the cloth bag is included

    NOTE: However I do not have the original SN leather case, or the original box.
